Hilding Anders launches EcoChallenge in Switzerland

1 378,9. That is the number of kilos in reduced carbon footprint the team of Hilding Anders Switzerland achieved in their month long “EcoChallence”. The purpose of the challenge was to use environmentally friendly modes of transportation whilst raising awareness of sustainable alternatives to work-commuting.

Hilding Anders is guided by its mission of improving lives through sleep and we understand that personal wellbeing is strongly related to the wellbeing of our society and planet. As part of our commitment to sustainability and reducing our environmental impact, we are measuring the carbon footprint of the Group whilst launching initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint. This is a vital step in ensuring that we do our part in combating climate change and protecting our planet for future generations.

One of these initiatives, albeit small in terms of quantitative measures, is the EcoChallenge in Switzerland.

During a one-month period, employees commuted to work either by walking, riding a bicycle, using public transportation or carpool. The challenge was meant as a team building exercise whilst raising awareness of more environmentally friendly alternatives to commuting.

“I am delighted by the result; these sorts of ideas are often nice to discuss but sometimes it is hard for them to bear fruit. I was taken aback by the engagement from everyone and how positive and motivated everyone involved was. We also achieved positive longstanding change as more employees have continued to commute to work through environmentally friendly means.”, commented Rocco Cristofaro, Innovation-& Sustainability-Manager at Hilding Anders Switzerland.

The winning team were able to reduce their commute-related C02 footprint by 100% and now other parts of Hilding Anders are looking at team building activities that have a positive effect on the environment.

“I think this was a wonderful initiative by our colleagues in Switzerland. Climate change is a pressing issue that affects all of us and we must all play our part in being a force for good and setting an example for future generations. Small actions, when multiplied across our entire team, can lead to substantial positive changes. That is why we have promoted this challenge both internally and externally and I know that we are launching several good initiatives across the Group.”, commented Peter Sturm, Group Chief People Officer at Hilding Anders.
