2nd life solution for hotel beds

Strong partnerships are defined by several key attributes and qualities that contribute to their success and longevity. Trust, communication, shared goals, and values, to name a few. At Hilding Anders, we are proud of our longstanding partnership with the worldwide hospitality leader, Accor.

Hilding Anders began its partnership with Accor back in 2003 by supplying beds to some of their hotels in China. To date the group has supplied quality beds and mattresses to over 350 hotels in various countries across three continents. During the last few years our partnership has grown stronger as Hilding Anders and Accor Group Purchasing Organization, Astore, have collaborated under a global agreement, enabling our company to supply beds to hotel brands such as Adagio, ibis family, Novotel, Pullman and MGallery.

Last year, Hilding Anders won a significant tender in Spain and Portugal with Accor. One of the key points of the tender was to not only produce and install new beds but also to offer an end-of-life solution to a selected number of beds as part of Accor’s strong dedication towards sustainability.

Thanks to the joint effort between Hilding Anders and four different NGOs and Humanitarian Associations, it was possible to provide a second life to more than 80% of the removed material.

The non-profit associations that made it possible were Remar, La Nau, Caritas and Africa Feliz. These NGOs contributed with the distribution of the material, mainly among Charity Shops, In-Need People Associations and Homeless Shelters.

Through collaborations with Remar and La Nau, it was also possible to help foreign countries such as Turkey, after they suffered the earthquake in 2023, where Hilding Anders sent approximately 6% of all the beds removed.

Hilding Anders managed to "help-by-giving-work", which was the added-value of the operation, with the active participation of volunteers from different associations, guaranteeing them work for over 5 months.

With more than 8500 old units collected among mattresses, toppers, and bases – we obtained the following results:

  • 74% old material - reconditioned guaranteeing a second life (+ 6700 units)

  • 26% old material -  recycled through Eco-Parks

Out of the 74% 2nd life material collected:

  • 47% Mattresses – 35% Toppers – 18% Bases

  • 49% 2nd Life Bed in Portugal

  • 45% 2nd Life Bed in Spain

  • 6% 2nd Life Bed in Turkey

“This is a great example of a sustainable business model, and we are going to transfer this model to other markets as well. Currently we are in process of supplying 70 Accor hotels in France, Germany, Poland  where the old hotels bed will be also handled by Hilding Anders’ Contract team.”, commented Elena Zandee-Sotnikova, International Sales Director Contract & Marine
